 Summer holidays are here and if you are not going away over the next few weeks it's a great time to make some changes in your home

Whether you are considering moving or making the most of your existing property, any time and money spent wisely will add value and enjoyment in the home.

There are many house, garden and property improvement programmes and magazines to inspire and give ideas. Whether you are considering revamping just one room or a whole property here are some key points to consider:  

·         Does the room function as in should? Is there enough storage (In most homes this is a problem and can lead to lots of clutter!)  

 ·         This is a great time of year to have a good clear out! It is very cathartic and will give you more space to make some changes. There are many charitable organisations to take unwanted furniture if you do not want to sell it. There is always a charity bag through the letterbox or the local charity shop. Be ruthless and get rid of your clutter! “If you don’t use it, need it or love it, it has to go!” 

·         Look at the areas as if you are seeing them for the first time or ask someone you trust to give an honest opinion. Is it an enjoyable place to spend time?  

·         Is the space looking tired and in need of a lick of paint?  

·         How does the colour scheme work in the room? For example does it feel light and airy / closed in and oppressive? Much can be done without spending too much money with paint, lighting and accessories. 

·         If you have living room with a neutral colour scheme you can make simple changes with accessories to change the room for the new season. Choose some bright  colours for cushions in light, tactile fabricsics, maybe a new inexpensive rug and throws. Colours like apple green, hyacinth blue and light neutral shades will immediately change the look and feel of your home. Textures like linens, silks and fresh cotton prints will make a big impact without too much expense.
